Our Instructor
Ustadha Myra Hamid Kamal
Ustadha Myra Hamid Kamal has a BA in World Politics from Hamilton College, New York and an MA in Political Science from the University of Maryland at College Park in Maryland, USA. After completing her MA, she acquired her Dars-e-Nizami based 'Alimiyyah degree from Wifaq al-Madaris al-Arabiyyah Pakistan. After completing her 'Alimiyyah, she opened a UK-based online institute of Islamic education and self-improvement for women, which grew over a decade from having six students and one teacher to benefiting thousands of students from all over the world, run by a staff consisting of dozens of teachers and administrators.
Ustadha Myra’s quest for deeper understanding of the Shari’ah led her to undertake a rigorous two-year Ifta Specialisation (Mufti) Program at Whitethread Institute UK, during which she answered over 1000 questions on a variety of topics in the context of contemporary demands and sensitivities. Thereafter, she has written fatwas for an online fatwa centre, runs multiple WhatsApp groups to answer women’s everyday questions, and has researched extensively into Islamic family law.
In working with women, Ustadha Myra realised that major obstacles to women’s spiritual progress were mental and emotional health struggles, family life challenges, lack of perspective, and inability to reconcile their day-to-day commitments with larger goals. While she was already counselling hundreds of women from around the world informally, she proceeded to attain certifications in life coaching, mentoring and support group facilitation and became an International Coaching Federation (ICF) credentialed Life Coach with expertise in Youth Coaching and Relationship Coaching. She brings her knowledge and experience in this area into her teaching of the deen and in counseling her students.
Ustadha Myra is passionate about female empowerment within the boundaries of the Shari’ah and has founded a faith-based community centre as a space for women and girls to question and learn, pursue their interests and connect in a safe and supportive environment. She has been teaching on multiple platforms and forums online and on-site, including at many universities, and has vast experience as a consultant for parents and teachers. She has lived in the USA, Malaysia, Morocco, the GCC and Pakistan, and has travelled widely. She is married and has two sons and a daughter.
